CSA Share, Week 4
June 25, 2008

I was excited to pick up this week’s share since I’d finally whittled down all the produce from last week. It is sometimes a bit exhausting trying to figure out what to do with it all, especially since I do prefer to plan my meals for the week on Sunday.
Today we received a large bunch of scallions, two heads of broccoli, a bunch of broccoli rabe, braising greens, lettuce mix, two small zucchini, a small yellow squash, and small handfuls of cilantro, parsley, and dill. It was definitely the most fragrant pick-up to date — my hands smelled of dill all the way home, and the sweet, onion scent of the scallions filled the car. You can see the squash are pockmarked from the hail the farm had recently. It was relatively superficial, though, and not much of the flesh had to be cut away.
I combined this week’s braising mix and yellow squash with last week’s, plus a scallion, for dinner tonight so those are taken care of already. We’ll have the broccoli with dinner tomorrow (pizza, not chicken as originally planned). I’d like to broil the zucchini with Parmesan and black pepper sprinkled on top, the way my mom makes it. Lettuce mix gets used for lunches. And the rabe will probably go alongside the enchiladas on Sunday. Scallions and herbs used along the way as needed. And I’m done before the next pick-up!
