CSA Share, Week 5
July 3, 2008

From the farm this week: a young green cabbage, a small head of broccoli, a cucumber, two yellow squash, a small zucchini, braising mix, lettuce mix, scallions, one bulb of fresh garlic, parsley, and a handful of the best-smelling basil ever.
I am definitely making a Caprese salad with fresh mozzarella and tomato with that amazing basil — I want to really savor it, not chop it into a dish where the flavor might get lost. The zuke and squash are headed for the grill at my parent’s house tomorrow. I’m thinking Frizzled Cabbage or maybe cabbage soup to stock the freezer? The cucumber will be eaten this weekend with falafel and hummus. Then I think I may do a “greens over pasta” night, as Vicki, Bard, and Rhys often do with their share — saute the braising greens (and broccoli?), parsley, scallions and some garlic and put it over whole wheat pasta with some Parmesan.
It always feels like an easy week when I don’t need a tutorial on how to prep anything I’ve received.
