Tears as a reaction to ones cooking must be rough! Also I must commend you on not lying to your kids and not laying the guilt on them. As a child and still now I have an issue with tomato paste and I remember my mom used to raise a fuss at me "being difficult" and refusing to eat them. You really seem to go with the flow.
