And There Was Light

January 30, 2009

I am very excited to finally have a reliable, bright light source for my photos! I had been looking at the Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Light for a while, and was thrilled and surprised to get it for my birthday from my parents. Our house was built in the 1920s (and was a barn before that) and it is very dark, even in the daylight. So this Lowel light is perfect for me. The Baked Meatballs photo is SOOC (straight out of the camera), taken with my Lowel and my usual Fuji Finepix F30, and it is unlike anything I could have achieved without this light. I have a lot of learning to do to use it to its best advantage, but I’m looking forward to being able to take properly-lit photos without having to make a choice between setting up outside or being satisfied with a blurry, yellowish image.

Want to Try

Peanut Butter Baked Oatmeal: I often swirl a tablespoon of peanut butter into my bowl of oatmeal at breakfast; this is a make-ahead version that I could portion and freeze.

Cook to This

"A Hazy Shade of Winter" by Simon & Garfunkel. I heard this on the radio recently and was shocked to realized I'd forgotten The Bangles' version is a cover of this original.
