What’s Your Favorite Store Brand?
February 8, 2009

I do my grocery shopping where it is most convenient, and that happens to be a newly-remodeled A&P Fresh (formerly a Food Emporium) that has a decent selection of store-brand products at good prices. The store is fine, it has what I need and I don’t think too much about it.
Earlier this week, though, I needed to go down to CVS, which is next to a huge new Stop & Shop that opened this past November. Stop & Shop has a large line of it’s own natural and organic products, called Nature’s Promise. I love this stuff! Everything from whole wheat pasta to animal crackers, canned beans to milk. Some of it is just all-natural with healthier ingredients (cookies without partially hydrogenated oils or high-fructose corn syrup), the rest is also organic (the milk and beans, for instance). It’s really fun having such a wide variety at a regular supermarket, and the prices are good, too. I stocked up, since I don’t get there too often. (They’ve tempted me with a $3 catalina off more Nature’s Promise products, though, so I may find myself back down there sooner than I’d go otherwise.)
On this trip I also discovered the store’s Simply Enjoy line, which includes a bunch of non-standard frozen vegetables like grilled zucchini or an antipasto mix (zucchini, peppers, onions, black olives, sun dried tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella cheese). The bags were $3 apiece for 12 oz. The antipasto mix seems like a super-easy way to make a nice dinner — just defrost, and mix into pasta. I hope it tastes as good as it looks.

How timely!! I just got back from the SSNS and totally loaded up on Nature’s Promise stuff. I’m hoping the whole wheat pasta is good – I bought 3 boxes.
I am an America’s Choice fan too – especially the hot chocolate! Don’t ask me why, but it makes the best one I’ve had (except for the Starbucks Salted Caramel one, but that is so off the charts)
We’ve had the whole wheat pasta — even the boys ate it, it’s good! — Dara

Should I tell you the truth…how annoying this is for those of us here with like 3 or 4 crappy grocery store chains to choose from, none of which has much of anything different or new or fun…just kidding!:) Well, I guess I am not kidding, it is true actually. I so envy the choice you have. Do I sound like a broken record, I might have mentioned this to you once or twice before….
Once or twice or 9 million times! ; ) — Dara
