Behind the Scenes
March 11, 2009
Although I was nervous in the week leading up to this morning’s spot on CT Style, once I got to the studio I felt great. Everyone was super-friendly, and although I was a little surprised at how laid back everyone was with giving me direction (there wasn’t much!), it worked out without a hitch. That’s a testament to the professionalism and talent of everyone involved with the show. The hosts, Sonia and Desiree, were welcoming and easy to talk to, and it felt natural to be hanging out with them while we cooked.
I had to take a few behind the scenes photos, because it was very cool to be on a set! I was surprised how compact the kitchen actually was, because on TV to me it looks much larger. And check out all those lights:

Man, it was hot on the set! You could feel the air get immediately cooler when you stepped out of those lights and off the set.
A. had a question for me as soon as he saw the video online: was the stove real? The answer is yes, but the window and sink are not. (Good thing I checked about the sink before I poured the chickpea liquid down a drain with no connected pipes.)

The window had a photograph of the outdoors set back behind it, with a natural light bulb shining down to make it look like sun. It would fool anyone that wasn’t standing right in front of it.
And finally, I had to show you what the studio looked like to me, looking out from the kitchen set. This is before the cameras were ready to shoot my segment, so they’re still far away. During the shooting, they were right up in front of the kitchen counter.

Overall I’m so glad I said “yes” to this invitation. I couldn’t have hoped for a better experience.

Of course I’m somewhat biased, but I am so proud of you for flawlessly cooking up a storm. Let’s eat!

Your comment about the fake sink and the chickpea liquid made me laugh. I had no idea there was so much fakery on a simple set.
