I was really surprised by the hefty size of our first CSA pick-up — lots of veggies, and they were even more gorgeous than I’d remembered from last year. It made me happy to see the boys walk right up to the bins, ready to help: “Mommy, how many bunches of these do we get?” To them, having a farm share is just a normal part of this time of year. I’ve got to get them up to the actual farm this season, because up until late in the season last year they thought the vegetables actually came from the house where we pick them up! They are still working out the differences between things they see less often, like turnips and radishes, but they love being able to load up our bag.

We received: a lush, heavy head of red lettuce, scallions, broccoli rabe (with a few delicate yellow flowers), turnips, huge red radishes, mixed lettuce, braising greens, sorrel, cilantro, and parsley. I absolutely adore the scent of cilantro, by the way, and I have to pull myself away from sniffing it as I carefully put it away in the fridge.

But oops… I mixed the sorrel into my braising greens. I thought about trying to separate them, but as J. pointed out, the sorrel is green and I can braise it, so no problem. Next time I’ll bring individual bags instead of just my huge blue IKEA sack.

Cheesy Kale Crisps: We rarely eat kale now that our farm share is over, and I want to fix that. I've wanted to try using nutritional yeast, and this recipe looks like a tasty way to do it.

"Shake It Out" by Florence + the Machine. This song reminds me of Annie Lennox, and I love tracks that include a huge, gospel-like chorus.
