CSA Share ‘09, Week 18

October 8, 2009

On a blustery Wednesday we received 2 carnival squash, collard greens, 2 bulbs of garlic, an onion, a green pepper, another quart of green tomatoes, a quart of potatoes, arugula, and komatsuna. Not pictured is a bag of mixed lettuce — we’d already eaten it for dinner by the time I took the photo.

Our share keeps getting smaller and I seem to see fewer members picking up their shares. I wonder if the number of people who skip a pick up increases as the season comes to a close? I was envious of those with a fruit share this week — they had big bags of honey crisp apples waiting for them.

I have not been cooking much this week, and still have the kale in my fridge from last week. J. is going to do some cooking this weekend, so hopefully I can work those greens into that plan.

Want to Try

Sweet Potato and Gruyère Turnovers: These easy pockets (using pre-made, refrigerated dough) sound delicious to me, and even include swiss chard -- something I always seem to have in my fridge from our CSA.

Cook to This

"Kids" by MGMT. Truly bizarre video, but a song that always perks my ears up when I hear it on the radio. They're a 21st century update of synth-pop bands I loved in the late 80s/early 90s (hello, New Order).
