There is too much. Let me sum up.

J. smoked beef ribs last Saturday (yes, more than a week ago), and at his request I made mashed sweet potatoes and sauteed green beans tossed with French’s Fried Onions. When he tasted the sweet potatoes he said “This is exactly what I wanted.” Ah! I was in heaven! A. has started eating beef recently, for the first time since he was about 2 years old. He liked these ribs a lot, too. The boy has good taste.

Last Sunday, for Father’s Day, I made up a fantastic mushroom pasta:

It was a simple preparation: I sauteed shitake, baby bellas, and white mushrooms in olive oil until they were softened, then added a little butter and flour to form a pseudo-roux. I deglazed the pan with a bit of sherry, and added mushroom broth, then simmered for about 10 minutes until the sauce thickened. I seasoned it with salt and chopped green onions. I tossed a pound of pasta with the sauce and served it along with a baked ziti, garlic bread, and salad (we had a lot of family here). It was very mushroom-y, and really delicious. Though not as well-liked as the ziti, I still got compliments on it. I will make it again, because I adore mushrooms.

I found a way to love turnips, in a slaw with apples and carrots:

I shredded an apple, a handful of baby carrots, and the bunch of turnips in my food processor, then tossed it with the juice of a lemon and a lime, a scant tablespoon of sesame oil, and some salt and green onions. It was delicious, and very crisp and refreshing. My mom loved it, too. You could add shredded cabbage to the mix as well; it’s a great side dish for a barbecue.

My most complimented creation of the week was the Susanna’s Sangria I brought to Merrie’s New Moon viewing party (a refresher before Eclipse comes out on Wednesday, and yes I already have tickets). She served Bloody Marys as well, natch. But my favorite part of her spread was Bella’s birthday cake:

I thought this cake was a stroke of genius… and if you are a Twilight fan I think you’ll agree.

I also finally wrote up Week 3 of my Roxbury Farm CSA. That sums up my absent week, I think. As you wish.

I think I am going to try to make your pasta this week. The slaw looks yummy, too.
BTW- the cake is still in my fridge!

I’m glad you got a picture of the cake! I am bummed I didn’t get to taste the sangria – I think we need to have another party11

Cheesy Kale Crisps: We rarely eat kale now that our farm share is over, and I want to fix that. I've wanted to try using nutritional yeast, and this recipe looks like a tasty way to do it.

"Shake It Out" by Florence + the Machine. This song reminds me of Annie Lennox, and I love tracks that include a huge, gospel-like chorus.
