CSA 2010, Week 23
November 17, 2010

I haven’t had the boys with me for the past several weeks when I picked up my farm share, but they did come along today — I liked having both their company and their help! They were very interested in the Brussels sprouts on the stalk. Even though I have them in the house all the time, they are always in a container and not still attached to a stalk the way they grow.
We received a bag of sweet potatoes, a red cabbage, a bag of carrots, 1 onion, a quart of beets, a quart of white potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and Tuscan kale (not pictured, because we fed it to the goats).
We’re having a virtual tailgate of sorts this weekend — friends are coming over to watch a football game on TV. J. is smoking a brisket to make sandwiches for the game, and I had thought about a slaw as a side. With cabbage, onion, and carrots in a single share, I know it’ll definitely be on our menu (maybe Spicy Cabbage Slaw). Plus, it doesn’t require any cooking, and since it looks like I might not get my stove and oven back (propane reconnected) until Monday, no-cook dishes are mandatory right now.
Two more pick-ups left this year! We received our re-enrollment forms for 2011 today.

Yum! Love your ideas. I’ve added the Mushroom and Caramelized-Shallot Strudel to my Thanksgiving list of goodies to make. My red wine and cranberry relish is in the frig and already made the pumpkin cheesecake ahead and it’s chillin.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
