J. and I have been talking about getting a good blender for a while, but when he discovered we could use some languishing credit card points to “buy” a Vitamix for free, we decided to stop deliberating and just order one. It arrived today, and we already turned some of last week’s CSA kale into a green smoothie. Even A. drank it! Now I’m looking at everything in my farm share with fresh eyes: what can I blend? What can I make into a smoothie? And just how many greens can I shove into a blender before their flavor is no longer masked by the banana?
This week we received 6 ears of corn, 2 quarts of green beans, a small bowl of salad mix, a huge head of Boston lettuce, 1 cantaloupe, 1 bunch of beets with greens, 4 onions, 2 zucchinis, 2 summer squash, 1 cucumber, 1 green pepper, and a small handful each of basil and parsley.
I already know I want to try a smoothie with both the cucumber and cantaloupe. A beet would mix nicely with berries, too. Do you have a smoothie recipe to share? Please do!
